Jeremy Lin is instead heading for left knee surgery that is expected to sideline him six weeks, possibly ending his amazing breakthrough season and leaving the New York Knicks without their starting point guard as they fight for a postseason spot.

Lin had an MRI exam this week that revealed a small, chronic meniscus tear and he has elected to have surgery next week in New York.

With the regular season ending April 26, the biggest story in basketball this season is probably done unless the Knicks make a deep playoff run.

[2/12/12] Somehow, the most improbable story in NBA history found himself in the most improbable place on Friday night: The ball in his hands, Madison Square Garden on its feet, and the fourth quarter genius of Los Angeles Lakers star Kobe Bryant determined to obliterate this burgeoning mythology. Out of Bryant, had come a barrage: twisted, contorted fades, a self-pass off the backboard, the A-list arsenal out of the world’s most gifted scorer.

Somehow, Jeremy Lin never flinched. Somehow, Jeremy Lin never let himself become a spectator, never stopped to wonder what in the world he was doing out here. The ball was so safe, so snug, in his hands. There was such an easy effortlessness to the downright diabolical manner with which he dismantled the Lakers and Bryant. Sheer hysteria had thundered down on the Garden floor, a phenomenon called Linsanity, and the most polished, most poised, presence happened to be Lin.

This kid out of nowhere – out of Harvard University, out of the Reno Bighorns and Erie Bayhawks – had done it again, done it with a devastating 38 points, seven assists, four rebounds and two steals in the Knicks’ 92-85 victory over the Lakers.

*** [2/5/12 - the beginning of Lin-Sanity]

Jeremy Lin cut through the Nets' defense all night before he was finally surrounded.

As teammates hugged him at center court while Pearl Jam's ''Jeremy'' blasted through the arena, it was clear the New York Knicks had finally found a spark.

Lin scored a career-high 25 points and the Knicks salvaged the finale of a back-to-back-to-back set by the New Jersey Nets 99-92 on Saturday night.

Les Murakami inducted into National College Baseball Hall of Fame

Les Murakami, the 89-year-old architect of the University of Hawaii baseball program, today was inducted into the National College Baseball Hall of Fame.

What started as a “temporary” job in 1971, UH’s first season competing in NCAA Division I, turned into a 30-year stint as the Rainbows’ head coach.

Murakami’s record of 1,079-648-4, included six Western Athletic Conference titles, 10 NCAA Regional appearances, and a runner-up finish in the 1980 College World Series.

Murakami coached Sheridan in the AJA League, borrowing their orange, green and white uniforms for his early UH teams. The color scheme stuck, with one of the hues known as “Sheridan orange.”

Murakami developed local talent into stars, such as Gerald Ako, Derek Tatsuno, Greg Oniate, Randy Oyama, Billy Blanchette, Mario Monico, John Matias, while blending with Glenn Braggs, Rick Bass, Chuck Crim, Thad Reese and Bryan Duquette, among several. Murakami sent 74 players to pro baseball, including 10 to the major leagues. Tatsuno referred to Murakami as a “pied piper.”

In acknowledgement of Murakami’s diligence and political pull, then-athletic director Paul Durham was surprised to notice there appeared to be a construction project underway in the quarry where the on-campus athletic facilities were located. That project became UH’s first baseball field, complete with metal bleachers and his wife Dot Murakami’s makeshift concession stand.

In 1984, the field was transformed into an $11.2-million project christened as 4,312-seat Rainbow Stadium.

Murakami coached the Rainbows until he suffered a stroke on Nov. 2, 2000.

In 2001, Murakami was named to the UH Circle of Honor. He also was inducted into the American Baseball Coaches Association’s Hall of Fame.

In 2002, UH’s baseball stadium was renamed Les Murakami Stadium. “This has always been the house that Les built,” said Hugh Yoshida, who was the athletic director at the time.

NBA Draft 2025

[5/12/25] Cooper Flagg likely found his new home Monday as the NBA held its annual Draft Lottery in Chicago. After months of waiting, the stunning results are in: the Dallas Mavericks hold the No. 1 overall pick in June's NBA Draft. The Mavs had just a 1.8% chance of winning the top pick after going 39-43 this season. The Mavs made the Play-In Tournament after shockingly trading Luka Dončiç to the Lakers ahead of the trade deadline.

In all likelihood, they will select Flagg, the dominant two-way forward prospect out of Duke who nearly swept the National Player of the Year awards in college.

It was a chaotic Draft Lottery as the 76ers, Mavericks and Spurs all jumped into the top four, while the Wizards, Jazz, Pelicans and Nets all took a lottery tumble. The Spurs will pick No. 2 overall, the 76ers will pick third and the Hornets will pick fourth. Picks 5-14 will be made in order of record among the non-playoff teams.
